About Sheffield Chinese Community Centre

The vision of the Sheffield Chinese Community Centre is to serve the Sheffield Chinese Community and promote community relationships as well as Chinese culture.

The mission of the Sheffield Chinese Community Centre is to promote the benefit of people with Chinese origin or descent under equal opportunity policy and by associating together those people and the local authority, voluntary and other organisations in a common effort to advance education and provide facilities in the interests of social welfare and for the recreation and leisure time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the Chinese.

The strategic goals of the Centre are the followings:

  1. to promote the understanding, knowledge and awareness of the Chinese Community in the area of benefit and in the wider community in general
  2. to promote the exchange of ideas and information concerning the Chinese Community and the organisation of employment
  3. to provide advice & support,  resources for information and facilities for social & leisure activities
  4. to promote and  provide exhibitions, meetings, classes and workshops

The Centre provides core services including education and training which help to enhance the employment skills and opportunities of the participants. Welfare Advice Service offers general information and support to community members regarding benefits or related issues that may affect their daily lives. The Elderly Luncheon and activities promote the health and well being of the elderly. Chinese Musical Instrumental Class and Cultural workshops, events and festivals are organised to promote the awareness and appreciation of the Chinese culture. Through collaboration of working with the local authority and other voluntary and community organisations for culture events and festivals, the Centre helps to promote the community cohesion and contribute to the benefit of a wider community.  The Centre also acts as a focal point which provide different social and leisure facilities for members in order to promote the personal and social skill of participants and reduce isolation of individuals in the community. All Centre services are city wide and benefits individuals and families from across Sheffield and surrounding areas. In addition, the Centre currently runs three main projects and these are as follows:

  1. Chinese Health (Kinhon) Programme 健康計劃
  2. Chinese Emotional Well-being Programme 精神健康計劃
  3. Chinese Youth Participation Project 青少年實踐計劃

The Health and Emotional Well Being programme serve all ages of the community whereas the Youth Project serve the children and young people from aged eight to nineteen including the disadvantage young people of aged up to twenty-five. All above programmes and project will provide services responding to the different needs of the target groups.
